Abused, physically challenged, neglected
and sick children
The children are reached through programs administered by selected
institutions that care for children in need, at risk or in trouble.
Our goal is to help them heal, regain hope and confidence, and get
a fresh start in life.
In the United States, the beneficiaries are:
The Children’s Storefront,
a private tuition-free school in Harlem providing quality education
in a nurturing learning environment from pre-K through the eighth
grade. FAAFC has funded the school's summer camps and language programs,
and currently contributes to the pre-school program.
The Children’s Village, a
residential facility for neglected, battered and abused children
in judicial care. FAAFC currently funds family therapy programs,
notably 'Project I.M.P.A.C.T.' (Intervention to Maintain Parents
and Children Together) which counsels families in an effort to help
reintegrate the children back in a safer home life, with a follow-up
in-home support program and well-attended parents workshops.
Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club,
an after-school activity center, catering to thousands of latchkey
children and youngsters, who might otherwise be out in the streets.
Through an array of activities ranging from sports, music and dance
to educational help and counseling, the club members learn to recognize
and develop their potential. FAAFC supports teenage development
and parent outreach programs, and recently participated in the expansion
of the Cultural Arts and Weight Awareness programs.and Weight Awareness
programs.
In France, the beneficiaries are:
Le Centre Augustin Grosselin, a highly specialized
school and residential center for deaf and speech-impaired children
with consequent developmental problems, whose aim is to educate
and reinsert these children into society. FAAFC has funded the upgrading
of classroom facilities, including renovations, the acquisition
of special audiovisual and computer equipment for the hearing and
speech-impaired, and a woodworking equipment shop for pre-professional
training activities.
Le Centre Français de Protection de l’Enfance,
an organization that uses innovative programs in an effort to address
and prevent neglect and child abuse of disadvantaged children at
risk in their home environment. FAAFC participates in 'Parrainage'
a unique program that extends to various regions of France, and
is designed to pair up inner city children from dysfunctional families
with volunteer part-time host families who receives no financial
remuneration.
La Société de Charité Maternelle de
Paris: an historic cardiac care facility. The "Centre des
Côtes"is the only pediatric cardiology center in Europe dedicated
to the treatment of congenital heart diseases. We recently funded
the construction of a therapeutic exercise pool and the creation
of a neonatal unit with 18 beds.
In
2007 French-American Aid for Children started supporting
Surgeons of Hope / La Chaine de l'Espoir, a
Franco-American organization that mobilizes surgical teams to treat
children in countries where care is unavailable, and to train local
doctors in modern cardiovascular techniques. Our contribution
enabled a medical team of 10 from the Children’s
Hospital of Denver
to perform 15 procedures on children and train local medical staff
at Fann Dakar Cardiovascular Center, Senegal.
At the Bal des Berceaux on May 2,
2008, French-American Aid for Children will honor Professor Alain
Deloche, founder of Surgeons of Hope/Chaîne de l’Espoir.
FAAFC also
supports the program, Solidarité Enfants SIDA, an organization created
in 1990 to assist mothers and young children suffering from AIDS.

Additionally, FAAFC has
initiated an exchange program between the United States and
France for underprivileged adolescents, in order to provide an
enriching experience and broaden their awareness of the world by
opening and broadening their minds and spirits to a new culture.
The first exchange took
place this past summer with seven adolescents and their chaperones
spending a full week in each country. The two groups greatly enjoyed
the various educational and recreational activities organized during
the weeklong exchanges on each side of the Atlantic. Due to the
enthusiastic responses we intend to continue this program."
